Shephard is not the only Marine left behind at Black Mesa. Along the way, he meets up with a crew separated from their platoon. Will the strength in numbers provide us an edge against the Xen? Of course, that won't mean anything if he can't survive the nearly-destroyed remnants of Black Mesa. There are a lot of platforming and environmental puzzles to tackle when we're not dealing with hostile aliens. The game was developed by Gearbox Software in conjunction with Valve and published by Sierra. Opposing Force stars the player as Adrian Shephard, an HECU Marine, sent into Black Mesa as part of the military response to the Black Mesa incident. He is cut off from his team after a helicopter crash on approach and has to fight his way through the remnants of Black Mesa to make it out alive.
